Australia is blessed with large coal reserves and currently our exports of this vital commodity are all in the raw form. As oil resumes its long term price rise, LNG prices on the international market will follow. Coal will have a better economic use as the feedstock for transport fuels, petrol, diesel and jet fuel. It will also be the preferred feedstock for making nitrogenous fertiliser, the source of half of the protein we eat. Australia will have a chemical industry renaissance based on converting coal to syngas and then the myriad of chemical products that can come from that.
