The first Australian Children's Book of the Year Award was made in 1946. These annual awards are for books with an implied readership under the age of eighteen, and are presented in five categories. Today the Book winners are announced. (Always announced the day before book week begins.)
The theme of 2010 Book Week is 'across the story bridge'. Each state and territory branch of the Children's Book Council of Australia organises a variety of activities to celebrate Book Week.
