Big Star is a unique on-line reading resource for young New Zealanders and their families.
On the site you’ll find recommended reads for everyone from the budding board-book chewer right through to the savvy late teen who’s seen it all and read the book. There are suggestions on what your child might want to read next, joining the dots between great reads for every age group.
You can discuss, ask questions, and share information on reading and literacy with other parents in our forum.
There is also a section for parents, with book suggestions covering everything from kid-wrangling to cooking for a family as well as advice on getting your kid to actually read a book. Our kids section is just for the kids with competitions, reader profiles, reviews (by the kids for the kids!) and other fun activities.
Big Star aims to expand the horizons of young readers and their families by providing an easy route to new reading material.
Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children's literature, constructing schools, and providing education to girls. We seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education empowers people to improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries and future generations. Through the opportunities that only education can provide, we strive to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.
